Round two of the BBA season saw Ballan Brumbies Under 14 Boys White take on Drummo Dragons Green, with the double blow of a pair of players missing and also two players in Foster Trinder and Zack Harrison making their debuts. Coach Oscar Marion had a job on his hands balancing the new players with his experienced troops.
Brumbies got off to the better start with Cambrai Hodge hitting a pair of baskets to open the scoring. The game, however, was tight throughout the first half as every Brumbies charge was answered by Drummo's balanced attack. Drummo defensive ace Luca Tadros attempted to get in the head of Ballan point guard Kristian Seketa, though the young Brumby kept his cool, repeatedly penetrating the key and creating chances for his team. It was his assist that saw Harrison score the first basket of his basketball career.
A late Drummo basket to Callum Fyffe saw Ballan trail 7-8 at the break in a tense, defensive game.
After half time Ballan started to find their rhythm. Hodge was again instrumental, crashing the offensive glass. Though his shots were not falling with their usual regularity - in fairness he did score a game high eight points - the attention he drew opened up the game for his teammates. Brody Grech took advantage of that extra space, scoring five of his seven points in the second half, most of those coming through a tricky pump and drive game.
A sweet rainbow jumper from Seketa put Ballan back in the lead with just over seven minutes to play. From their, Ballan started to take control. Hodge dominated the defensive glass and Grech used his cunning to get to the foul line, where his free throws eventually iced the game. It wasn't always pretty basketball, but in a hard fought match Ballan came out victorious 21-16.
